So It's Settled, I'm Starting A Blog.

It’s Friday night and as much as I wish I were out on the town prancing from bar to bar in 4 inch pointed toe pumps and a great DVF dress that is as bright as my personality trying to find Mr. Right…I’m laying in bed, fumbling through every social network imaginable and sipping on warm diet pepsi rather than a Cosmopolitan with extra sour mix. No I’m not sick…at least I hope not. One word. Allergies.

Allergies are like spilling coffee on your new white blouse on the way to work. Obviously you COULD go on with your day (I don’t recommend it), but the thought of that stain on your new silk blouse….or in my case the constant feeling that you just swallowed a chainsaw is….plain bothersome. I’ll say this right now, I exaggerate A LOT. In my eyes my life is like a bad soap opera mixed with a SNL skit where nothing ever goes according to plans…again I’m being dramatic. Sometimes I think about listing ‘Being Dramatic’ as one of my skill sets on LinkedIn…but then I’m like, mmm better not.

When I think about listing "Being Dramatic" as one of my skills on LinkedIn...

I am a firm believe in ‘everything happens for a reason’, so this evening was meant to be in my eyes. I was minding my own business looking through trending articles on LinkedIn when I came across an article on Women MBAs and what is holding them back. As I was reading the story on how Women MBAs are struggling to balance furthering their career and starting a family I couldn’t get over the picture they used to promote the article. Picture this: a white backdrop with a group various professional women from different ethnicities all in suits. Ahemmmm, all in BLACK AND GREY FRUMPY SUITS. Then there is another woman opposite them, I’m guessing she’s playing the role as a mother because she is wearing a casual skirt and shirt combo looking like she is about to run to a PTA meeting. Anyway lets get back to the Women MBA’s. Is this how the public receives women MBAs? Women with minimal makeup, hairstyles from the early nineties and wardrobes consisting of black and grey frumpiness. IS THIS WHAT MY FUTURE IS?!?!!?…..I say NO THANK YOU.

Come on ladies, we can vote, we win Olympic medals, we fly planes across the Atlantic, sit on the Supreme Court, raise children, act as CEOs for Fortune 500 companies, throw fabulous dinner parties and always manage to send out birthday cards. The list goes on and on. We have proved ourselves, so why do we feel the need to wear masculine black and white pant suits to be seen as professional?…If that’s the case I might as well just borrow one of my dads Hugo Boss suits and throw my hair back in a scrunchie. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with menswear for women but there is a right way and a wrong way.

Right Way                                                       Wrong Way

Anyways, lets get back to my point…what was that again? Oh right Women MBAs and their lack of fabulosity. Women MBAs ARE fabulous! I’m currently pursuing my MBA as we speak and I don’t want to be seen as frumpy or boring. I want to have an MBA AND a marvelous closet. No I’m not writing this blog as some mission for women empowerment, but if you want to read it as that go ahead…at least I’m getting someone to read this…if anyone reads this. I guess I just need a creative outlet. My life in business school is so black and white, I NEED SOME COLOR. My imagination is ALWAYS GOING, like the energizer bunny…if the energizer bunny were constantly changing outfits, traveling the world and starring in his own reality TV show. I hope you get the point.

This blog will be the extra color I need in my life! Whether it be raving about a new TV series I'm obsessed with, scoring a major deal at Nordstroms, finding the man of my dreams or struggling to balance it all on top of homework and case studies...it will probably end up here. Here goes nothing!

xoxo

  1. Funny you say this isn't meant as a mission to promote female empowerment... because just the fact that you're declaring that takes you one step further to closing the perceived 'gender gap'. I love the post! And I think if anyone could break the mold for Female MBAs, it would be you :)

    Happy Blogging!
