Moving

First off, I have always been one to be excited about moving. New place, new friends, a fresh start to a new chapter! Now when the actual moving day comes, I hate moving. Up until now, everytime I have moved, it has been into a furnished apartment, this is the first time I'm moving into a completely empty room. Which can be daunting - decorating wise, but also super exciting about having a blank canvas to work with.

Now back to the whole moving the furniture. In the last week, my father and I have basically become our own moving company. If there was a tag line, it would be Limoncelli Movers - where a 67 year old and a 23 year old yell and get nothing accomplished. But really, if I had a dollar for everytime my dad yelled "we're hiring movers the next time you do this!" I'd be able to retire to Antiqua and drive an Aston Martin - it was a cray week.

Back to moving. I literally only had to move into a bedroom. I moved into an apartment with 4 other girls who have all been there for about a year, but its ok because one is my bestie from grad school, another went to SLU (we luuurve her obviously) and one is absolutely hilarious and I just want to throw her in my purse and take her everywhere with me! Getting back to my point, they already have a living room set up and a kitchen furnished and everything, I literally just needed to move into a bedroom. Sounds easy enough right? WRONG. First off, my decorating sense has taken a turn for the worse...as of now it looks like I moved into one of our guestrooms at home. I'm hoping I can add some pizazz and more feminine touches when my last piece of furniture arrives and I put curtains up. It is seriously so sad right now. Poor little room.

My thought process for decorating was trying my best to achieve a look similar to this:

Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren

LOVE IT RIGHT?! I know me too.

The only problem was that my budget for the room was about the size of my room and compared to this room...both are much smaller. Argh.
So I went with mostly whites and some mint accents for my bed, hoping I can find some pale pinks and peaches to add sooner than later. But I think I took a turn for the worse when I spontaneously bought an extremely aggressive Persian style rug (on sale...so I was trying) that looks like it belongs in a sitting room designed by a 70 year old man. Ok I fell off the tracks of my style sense for a second, but now I have to work with what I have because I had the movers that delivered my bed (bed and only bed, everything else courtesy of me and my fathaaa) set up the bed right on top of the rug - because I had read that if you are getting an area rug for a small bedroom, you should have it frame the bed and side tables. I did that...and if I was color blind things would look great. But I can't get discouraged, I must keep going, I MUST FIX THIS.

I think my biggest issue is the star of my room, a pre-war desk of drawers in dark mahogany with intricate handles, wont be arriving for another two weeks because my amazing mama is staining it and touching it up a bit. In the previous week I had watched too much Downton Abbey and proceeded to aggressively go antiquing where I purchased two pieces of drawers (that came from a woman who is getting rid of them because shes GOING BACK TO ENGLAND! -fate people) that reminded me of pieces I'd find in Downton.

Downton Abbey

What I'm actually working with.
I forgot to think about the fact that Downton is massive and my room is not. Therefore, filling everything with dark colors can be a bit...lets just say I've had better ideas. Like getting highlights my freshmen year of high school, NOT.

So now that I've vented I feel a bit better. But I can't wait until the room is finished, and I can show you guys!

I apologize now, I have a feeling the topic of conversation might gravitate towards interior design in the near future. That might also be because I have been dreaming of working in interior design, getting married and moving to Chicago or Texas...I know. I blame it on the fact that I have been catching up on one of my favorite blogs Peppermint Bliss. Check it out, I find Bailey to be hilarious and I feel like we'd be besties if we met. Anyway, that is my life right now.
