Iron Man 3

First and foremost I should inform you all that my love for Robert Downey Jr. is true and everlasting. Yes I understand there is all this hype about Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Tom Cruise, blah blah blah. But Robert Downey Jr. - absolutely amazing. I mean come on people, lets look at the comeback he made years ago battling addiction and now he’s back, better than ever and a cinema hero. Alright now, let move on to the topic of discussion, his latest work: Iron Man 3.

Now I’m a movie buff, I love movies and I always love a good sequel, so obviously now that I’ve become completely engulfed in the era of Marvel masterpieces from The Avengers, to Thor, to Captain America and obviously Iron Man…I’m committed and can’t get enough. I’ve been looking forward to Iron Man 3 since before Christmas, and I was smart and planned ahead. I made sure to watch all of the movies that were at all connected to The Avengers, etc. And of course to plan for this evening’s big premiere I managed to watch Iron Man I and II three times this week…that is three times each. I wanted to be ready.

I can say that at this time in my life, maybe this is the adrenaline….but at this time, in my 23 years of experiencing movie magic, this might be the most exciting movie I’ve ever seen…it might possibly be my favorite…AND IT’S A SEQUEL.

If you aren’t familiar with anything I’ve talked about so far you need to take a personal day…or two, and catch up with the last few years of movies that Marvel has produced, especially the Iron Man movies. So now, lets get to the moment we’ve been waiting for…IRON MAN 3.

Obviously I’m not going to spill the plot of the movie, but I will guide you in all of the emotions I felt during the two hours of a visual masterpiece that was Iron Man 3.

Right off the bat you were excited, the opening music, the opening scenes. You were reunited with Tony and Jarvis and it was great to have them back. Moments later you became consumed by the story and tried your best to retain every piece of information you could trying to figure out where the plot was going.

The costumes were great! Gweneth Paltrow’s white suite that she wore in her opening scene was absolutely FABULOUS. But I couldn’t let myself get too absorbed by how great everyone looked, I needed to focus and follow the plot, engrossed in every detail possible.

As the movie went on you were on the edge of your seat the whole time. Throughout the entirety I found myself going through like...heat strokes, I was emotionally attached to this movie…and I didn’t hate it. Being so captivated in this story I was reacting with the emotion of a crazed sports fan watching their team in the tightest game they’ve ever witnessed. I found myself screaming multiple times at the screen…not to worry - the theater was completely empty except for myself, the guys I went with, and a lone viewer in the back row.

So now that I’m verbalizing my emotions, and physically reacting to what is going on, I can’t help but make assumptions and guesses to what is going to happen next…usually I’m good at this, but I was always second guessing myself. A few thoughts that ran through my mind were as follows:

  •      DON’T LET THEM SEE YOUUUUU
  •       WHERE IS JARVIS?!
  •       DO I NEED TO REMEMBER HIS FACE?! HIS FACE!?
  •       WAS THAT WAS HE WAS TALKING ABOUT EARLIER!?!
  •       I CANNOT BELIEVE HIMMMMM!
  •       THAT WAS…NOOO…NOT OK
  •       OMG I HATE YOU! YOU ARE HORRIBLE!
  •       HURRY UP HURRY UP HURRY UP
  •       GET OUT OF THERE, YOU NEED TO GET OUT OF THEREEEE
  •       RUN, YOU ARE GOING TO DIE.
  •       DO NOT KILL THEM!
  •       THAT IS NOT FAIR!!!!!
  •       I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING. THIS IS NOT HAPPENING!!!!!!

As all of these thoughts were running through my head, they were accompanied by gasps, slapping my forehead, covering my face with my eyes, fanning my face, grabbing my chest, etc. Obviously I’m not including all of my thoughts because I can’t give anything away.

But seeing this movie was not just seeing any old movie, it was a true experience…maybe that’s because I saw it in 3D. But nonetheless, it was an experience. You were dedicated to every scene, you followed the plot ruthlessly, you felt each emotion every character was feeling, you were swept up in every bit of excitement and triumph that they were. You jumped up from you seat in joy, you wept with the sorrow, the soundtrack inspired you and throughout all of this you were barely catching your breath because your heart was beating out of your chest. Amazing.

Hats off to the director of this Iron Man installment, you are a true genius. And my dedication to the movie didn’t stop once the credits began to roll… I like any other theater veteran knew to stay through until the end…the end-end. And my patience paid off…but I actually loved the credits because the soundtrack I found to be FANTASTIC. The story is not over my friends, it is NOT OVER!

Now lets get into the plot and story a little bit when it comes to reflecting society. When you think about it, cinema is the past, the present and the future. Looking at the bad guys in films, we've seen a timeline similar to the Germans, Russians, Middle East and now are we seeing a shift into North Korea like in Red Dawn, right? See any patterns? The bad guys in film reflect what is going on in the world and society. Cinema is documenting history as we are living it and emotionally experiencing everything that is happening in the world. We’re also seeing pop culture, stereotypes, media, society and obviously politics. In my eyes, film is the industry to be in. There will always be a demand, its always changing and exciting, and it is such a huge part of our lives in this day and age.

Now I’ll leave you with a few thoughts before I go into an hour-long whirlwind of re-evaluating everything I just watched.

1. Go see Iron Man 3. You’re welcome.
2. I want to marry Tony Stark.
3. There were numerous times I thought about switching my concentration to I.T. so I had a better chance of experiencing Iron Man in real life.
4. Iron Man vs. Transformers, or anything of that nature…9 times out of 10 Iron Man will win….and that one time he is only resting and prolonging the competition.
5. I am going to get a dog and name him Jarvis
6. Tony Stark will return.

So what are you waiting for!? GO SEE IT!

ps. my heart is still pounding from all of the cinema excitment
